The Chickens
Last Fall we brought home a coop and 4 baby chicks, just to try it out. We had ducks for years, and missed having fresh eggs available everyday. Well in the Spring we kicked it up a notch. We ordered dozens of baby chicks (all guaranteed girls this time-we don't want to end up with half boys like last time!) and built them their own hoop house in the yard. They are kept safely locked in at night, but free range otherwise.
We are planning to order more baby chicks to sell as pullets this Spring. We will be putting in another order for chicks in June, so if you have a specific breed in mind we can help with that, too!
We should also have fresh eggs available for sale by this Spring.

An Amish-made coop we found on Craigslist for $50! |  These are the original 4 chicks we bought last Fall. 2 of these "girls" turned out to be roosters and we had to cull one of them. This is why we ordered sexed pullets this year. We will gladly show our invoice for the girls to anyone purchasing the extras. Just because someone claims they have girls doesn't make it true! The service we ordered from guarantees that they are in fact girls. |
