After much research, we chose Karakachans to be our LGDs in 2015.  We love their easy trainability, instinct to bond with and guard their herd, intelligence, and their patient dispositions.  We also like that Karakachans don't seem to bark as often as most other LGDs and are intimidating to intruders without being aggressive toward people to whom they've been properly introduced.  If you are curious about the breed, let us know through the "contact" tab above and we can send you information.  There is also a Facebook group called "American Karakachan Dog Association" of which we are a part, and which all are welcome to join.  The members of the group are always willing to share their knowledge of the breed, answer questions, and give advice.  Dr. Phil Sponenberg, the veterinarian and farmer who originally imported Karakachans and helped establish the breed in North America, is also part of the group.

We got Kacha, a female out of one of Dr. Sponenberg's litters, in September 2015.  We welcomed Angus, a male out of Karakachan Farms, in the Summer of 2016.  He started as a foster but when we saw how well he did with the goat kids and chickens and how well he and Kacha work together, we decided he had to stay.  The icing on the cake was finding out that he is not related to Kacha.  With Dr. Sponenberg's guidance and blessing (and a clean bill of health for both of them from the vet) we started breeding.

Kacha had her first litter of 10 healthy pups on 2/4/17, and her second litter of 10 healthy pups on 12/14/17.  All puppies born on our farm grow up living among goats and chickens.  We work with them on leash and crate training, as well as riding in a car, so that their transitions to new farms go more smoothly.  They receive puppy shots (DHPP) and are dewormed at 8 weeks, 12 weeks, and 16 weeks.  Puppies who stay to 16 weeks will also receive a rabies vaccine.  All our puppies are microchipped, registered with the AKDA, and receive all medical treatments from a licensed veterinarian.

We prefer that puppies be picked up in person so that we can meet you, answer questions, and demonstrate some of our training techniques before you take your puppy home.  If in-person pick up is not an option, air travel can be arranged by us.  If you have a ground transporter you'd prefer to use, that can be accommodated as well.

If you would like to be considered for a puppy, use the "Contact" tab above or reach out to us through our Facebook page, Four-legged Folly Farm.
